Assault on Battery Island After negotiating passage on a boat with the river people, the heroic souls arrive upon an island in the middle of the Mississippi Bay, an old half-fortified mansion perched on it. The emplacement crawls with Sons of Liberty. Bullets flew and knives slashed, flames were thrown. Uriah Price was stabbed while attempting to disarm a bomb, and would have perished had not one of Sons of Liberty doctors not been susceptible to the lure of money. In the end, the heroes located the Duchess in the upper floors of the mansion, guarded by Major Lee, an augmented man more than willing to dispatch the rescuers. It took the combined effort of all involved to defeat the Major. Some barely survived. The Duchess was rescued, along with vital military intelligence recovered. Air Lancers arrived later to secure the island.
September 2010 A Fistful of Silk On the trail of Duchess Foxfern's kidnappers into the night-lands, the would-be rescuers were set upon by wild dogs, losing Wildcat and their guide, most suffering injuries. After a harrowing chase through the dark, they reached their destination, an abandoned Glass Knife camp which appeared to have been raided. Taking refuge in the last remaining building, they are confronted with a series of mysteries. Rooting through the detritus (and risking fungal poisoning), they uncover the identity of the kidnappers, the dastardly Sons of Liberty. A nachtjaeger finds the party holed up in the building and informs them that they must rescue the Duchess, or risk banishment from the City of Light as proscribed by the City Elders. Charged to lead the rescue, the injured Squire MacFarlane must pass this responsibility to Air Marshal Houston. Using a part of a prodigious sum of money found in the building, they send the Nachtjaeger back to St. Louis to secure military aid as well as medical aid for Squire McFarlane.
